Descriptive statistics is a branch of statistics that focuses on summarizing and describing the main features of a dataset. Instead of analyzing the entire dataset in detail, descriptive statistics uses measures such as mean (average), median (middle value), and mode (most frequent value) to provide a clear summary. It also includes the use of graphs, charts, and tables, such as bar charts, pie charts, and histograms, to visually represent data. For example, a teacher might use descriptive statistics to summarize the test scores of a class and identify overall performance. This type of statistics does not make predictions or draw conclusions beyond the given data; it simply describes what the data shows. Descriptive statistics is important because it helps individuals and organizations quickly understand large amounts of information and identify patterns or trends. In conclusion, descriptive statistics is a fundamental tool for organizing and presenting data clearly and effectively.
